Abseil for Charity....

A total of over £57,000 was pledged on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd May,
by 238 participants, raising funds for a record number of eighty groups,
ranging from local schools to international charities.

Participants included:
Harry Joseph a 93 year old D-Day veteran (taking part for the second successive year),
who raised £1,000 to be divided between St Clare Hospice and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance;
Cyril Banks 84, almost £1700 for the "Not forgotten" association;
Joanna Jarvis of CAFOD who has £1500 in pledges;
John Knapman EFDC Chairman, over £1500 for his "Chairman's Charity Fund";
Rotarian Margaret Webb (of the Harlow club) over £1000 for the Rotary Jaipur Limb project.

At 2:30 on Sunday, the total raised or pledged for the twelve years passed £500,000,
with more than 2,500 people having made the descent, and around 500 organisations and
charities having benefitted from the sponsorship of their dare-devilry.

By the close this total had exceeded £508,000.

Proceeds from the refreshments and those side shows provided and manned by the club
members' wives and partners, and amounting to £700, will be donated to the "Help for Heroes" campaign.

After the last descent, club president, Rotarian Paul Moulds, praised our contractors:
Dukes Barn - Outdoor Pursuits group and training charity - who handle the ropes and
descents and St John Ambulance, for medical cover, for their professionalism.

Paul gave special thanks to the Three Valleys employees who gave their unpaid time to be on
site for both days of the event.

Paul closed by praising the work of all his members, their wives, partners, and
club supporters for their magnificent efforts, reflecting the true spirit of the Rotary motto

"Service Above Self".
